Our hearts go out to the families and friends of the people murdered in the Emanuel African Methodist (AME) Church in Charleston, SC, and to their community. We share in their grief. America’s long history of racism is still with us, and it remains deadly to our communities of color. We must all commit to ending racism. Our thoughts are with Charleston during this tragic time."

ReplyDeleteTo be a teacher is to stand with the victims of this tragedy and to understand and openly acknowledge that the historical problem of racism in our country is far from over.

I support the Badass Teachers Association in its statement regarding Emanuel AME Church in Charleston and condemning the murders committed there. I pledge to add my efforts to those of others, with the goal of ending racism against people of color in America and in the world.

ReplyDeleteThe wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them. Praying for everyone in the US, we need to answer some hard questions.

ReplyDeleteAs a teacher my heart goes out to you all. The fabric of our country is frayed and will be repaired by our collective hearts reaching across the warp and weft of our towns, in our schools and in our churches to continue to work to end racism.

Especially to the families, friends, fellow church members and community members of those who were senselessly gunned down in Charleston. And to the black community as a whole for the continuation of the reign of terror under which you live. Namaste.
