THE BADASS TEACHERS ASSOCIATION - WE HAVE CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTIONS TO TESTING THAT HURTS, PUNISHES, AND BLAMES CHILDREN!

Conscientious objector is a phrase that refers to a person who refuses to serve in the armed forces or to bear arms on moral or religious grounds.

We know that we are in the middle of a war, fighting for our schools and our students. One of the tolls in this war is the implementation of high stakes testing. These tests are like weapons, based upon the knowledge that these tests do not accurately measure educational achievement, but are more truly a measurement of the economic characteristics of the student. Today, decisions are being made to divert funds from numerous programs and appropriate staffing levels as districts are rushing to meet technology requirements and implement test practice programs. This money could be better used to increase staffing levels to allow for better student to teacher ratios, implement new programs that increase cultural and global awareness, create services that support the needs of the whole child, and renovate existing school structures that are in desperate need of repair.
The amount of stress that our students are under has become overwhelming and our schools are becoming less able to help that. As educators it is our moral responsibility to become a shield for our children and protect them from the people that seek to manipulate their education to personally profit at their expense. We have the moral obligation to become conscientious objectors as we remember our responsibility to our students.
As employees of our schools districts we realize that we are contractually obligated to perform certain tasks upon direction of the administration. However, we would like to formally state our objection to administering these high stakes tests to our students. We, the Badass Teachers Association which is an association of 52,000 people fighting to save public education,  would like to proclaim that we are doing so under extreme duress.

Please visit here for teachers who have refused testing or made statements of objection nationwide

  1. The corporate face of profit-driven terrorism against the Public Schools comes dressed in a Brioni suit

If the damage to public education in the United States caused by the profit-driven, corporate supported war on the public schools were added up in dollars, how much would that loss equal?

And if we were to compare that amount to the cost of the wars in the Middle East in the West's fight against Islamic fundamentalist extremist terrorist with Al Qaeda and ISIS, how would it compare?

Once we have those numbers boiled down to solid figures with dollar signs, we then have the cost of the damage that proves that the corporate war on public education is an act of terror close to or equal to the world war on Islamic terrorists.

Both war—the one against the public schools and the one against Islamic terrorists—destroy lives and damage the economy, but some corporation always profits.

When those passenger jets hit the World Trade Center in September 2001, The New York Times reported that the losses caused by 9/11 were about $3.3 Trillion, but someone profited from that attack---corporations. The money spent to fight the war against terror doesn’t vanish down a rabbit hole.

    http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011/09/08/us/sept-11-reckoning/cost-graphic.html?_r=0

If you want to know the faces behind the corporate economic war of terror on public education, it’s easy. Just follow the money.

"Hundreds of private philanthropies together spend almost $4 billion annually to support or transform K–12 education, most of it directed to schools that serve low-income children (only religious organizations receive more money). But three funders—the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Eli and Edythe Broad (rhymes with road) Foundation, and the Walton Family Foundation—working in sync, command the field."

    http://www.dissentmagazine.org/article/got-dough-how-billionaires-rule-our-schools

If you really want to follow the money to see more faces, I strongly suggest that you read “A Chronicle of Echoes: Who’s Who in the Implosion of American Public Education”by Mercedes K. Schenider

  2. No, a teacher would never have written the Common Core standards, and especially they would not have written the tests which go with them. You'd know this was true when viewing the report cards for they do not reflect common sense. Here is an example of 1 of the 52 Common Core standards on my 2nd graders new report cards. Remember that half my second graders are 6 turning 7 before 2014 ends, and the others are 7 turning 8 after 2015 begins.
"Describe the connection between a series of historical events, scientific ideas, concepts, steps in technical procedures."

  3. The question that needs to be asked is who is going making money through the administration of common cores? Bill Gates, Pearson just to name the two biggest. Bill Gates is not a philanthropist even though he claims to be one. He is a businessman who not only want to make money but wants to globalize our national education system to control it.
