BATs WEEKLY ROUNDUP – WEEK OF 5/18/14
By:  Marla Kilfoyle, General Manager BATs

BATs had lots of surprises this week.  On Monday, we got to send NC Senator David Curtis some emails for the demoralizing email he sent NC teacher Sarah Wiles.  Tuesday BATs supported the parents of Gresham who staged a sit in at their school to prevent it from being turned around.  We admire these parents who fight using peaceful resistance and courage.  Wednesday we supported a surprise sit in by the Newark Students Union.  These brave young people took over a BOE meeting in Newark where Superintendent Cami Anderson continues to blaze a trail of closing schools, firing teachers, and ignoring the Newark community.  The students refused to leave and eventually, as she has done in the past, Cami up and left the building when confronted with the truth.  Bravo to the brave Newark Students Union!  Thursday, BATs were encouraged to make appointments with their lawmakers.  Election season will be on us very soon and we encourage all BATs to get in to see their local, state, and federal lawmakers.  Make it clear you will not vote them in if they support Corporate Deform!  Friday BATs relaxed with a meme making event.  We took our favorite passages from Reign of Error by Diane Ravitch and made memes out of them!  BATs ended the week with a continued call out to support our March on DC.  If you would like to donate please do so here http://www.gofundme.com/8e1dec
