Dear BATs and BAT Supporters -
We wish everyone a successful and healthy school year. As millions of children and teachers return back to school, The Badass Teachers Association continues our work throughout the nation for education, social, and racial justice. Here is what we have been up to:
1. Teachers, parents, and communities are tired of billionaires using their money to tell us how education should be "transformed." Join BATs this Friday as we address another billionaire trying to transform education. Read more here http://www.badassteacher.org/
and please support our Thunderclap with either your Twitter feed or Facebook page https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/61433-imagine-students-in-a-school
2. BATs is a proud partner in the #WeChoose National Coalition. The coalition is conducting critical conversations across the country. Please try to attend one in your area https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bBwXFUyaqsTrOIAO3HFVPW4XTlIJrKGzfODhtRoVF-4/edit
and please hop on Twitter this Wednesday evening to join the #WeChoose Twitter Chat. Head to the #WeChoose hashtag from 8:30-9:30 EST and join the online conversation.
3. BATs celebrated their blog this past week. Please share it with all your friends, family, and colleagues. The blog is closing in on 2 million readers! Thank you to Michael Flanagan and Steven Singer who help keep it going! http://badassteachers.blogspot.com/
4. The Board of Directors for The Badass Teachers Association have voted and will be donating $500 to victims of Hurricane Harvey. We are currently seeking a school in a high poverty area of Houston that we can donate to. We will update you next month about this.
5. BATs continue to fly around the country to present at conferences and workshops. BATs will be presenting at The Network for Public Education in Oakland and Board member Dr. Denisha Jones will be presenting at The Progressive Education Network Annual Conference in Boston. To learn more about these events go here
6. Finally, a HUGE congratulations to Terri Rector Michal, AL BAT and a member of the BATs leadership team, on her amazing electoral win to the Birmingham Board of Education! To see her chat about her win go here https://www.facebook.com/BadassTeachersAssociation/posts/1392876470781224
