BATs - Tell America's Mayors to Support Public Education! 

As we all know School Choice Week is January 22-28.  Organizations who support school choice are sending emails to  Mayors throughout the country and asking them to write and publish a proclamation to support school choice.  We are asking members and supporters in our network who live in an area that has a Mayor to please send the email below as well as OUR proclamation for them to support PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

An email you can send to your Mayor

Dear Mayor***:

We are respectfully requesting that you consider officially recognizing January 22-28, 2017 as Public School Week in ****  This is normally the week that some organizations push School Choice. We are flipping the script and asking you to please celebrate the strong public schools that serve your community.  The recognition of school choice is a recognition of a system that is attempting to dismantle our public school system.

Issuing a proclamation provides an opportunity to shine a positive spotlight on K-12 public education children and families of your community.

Last year, more than 50 million children went to public schools.  Over 90% of America’s children attend public schools

Public School Week is entirely nonpolitical and nonpartisan, and we do not advocate for or against any legislation. Our goal is simply to raise awareness, among parents, about  K-12 public education and the many successes it offers our children.

Please issue this proclamation and help us raise awareness of the importance of opportunity in public education. Thank you for  your consideration.

SUGGESTED PROCLAMATION LANGUAGE

((Name of Community)) Public School Week

WHEREAS all children in ((Name of Community)) should have access to the highest-quality education possible; and,

WHEREAS ((Name of Community)) recognizes the important role that an effective education plays in preparing all students in ((Name of Community)) to be successful adults; and,

WHEREAS quality education is critically important to the economic vitality of ((Name of Community)); and,

WHEREAS is home to quality public schools for our children; and

WHEREAS, public education not only helps to diversify our economy, but also enhances the vibrancy of our community; and,

WHEREAS ((Name of Community)) has many high-quality teaching professionals who are committed to educating our children; and,

WHEREAS, Public School are celebrated across the country by millions of students, parents, educators, schools and organizations to raise awareness of the need for effective public schools;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, ((your name)) do hereby recognize January 22-28, 2017 as ((Name of your Community)) Public School Week, and I call this observance to the attention of all of our citizens.
